The Crossroads Trust
HOW TO APPLY
The Purpose of The Crossroads Trust
is to offer low interest loans to people caught in a spiral of debt. This is done by direct payment of debts by the Trust. NO CASH LOANS ARE MADE.
This ministry was modelled on a ministry at Spreydon Baptist Church, Christchurch, called Kingdom Resources Trust. The Crossroads Trust is evolving and adapting its procedures to suit the needs of the Waipu Presbyterian Parish family and the wider Bream Bay community.
This ministry is one way in which followers of Jesus can become involved in the community, thus letting people know that God cares deeply about their everyday needs.
The Waipu Presbyterian Parish has already been doing food parcel, budgeting advice, etc. and saw a need in the community for this service.
What are the reasons for giving a loan?
The first priority for The Crossroads Trust is to prevent the borrower from sliding further into debt. Many debtors find that over-commitment to hire purchase and other borrowings together with unexpected expenses can lead to a situation where money owed is greater than income.
The Crossroads Trust works with the borrower by paying the high interest debt and replacing it with a low interest loan from Crossroads Fund. This may mean that the borrower still has the same weekly debt repayments, but a Crossroads Trust loan is able to be paid off sooner because, unlike interest bearing loans, it doesnt grow.
On rare occasions loans are made to prevent people from going into debt they cant handle.
On occasions satisfactory solutions are arrived at that do not necessitate a loan e.g. with budgeting advice.
