The Alpha Course is an introduction to the Christian Faith. It is based around good food and good conversation. Although the course is ten weeks long, we only ask you to the first night. If we don't captivate your interest that's it - it's our loss. However, we do invite you to the next night in the hope that we have kept your interest.
The Alpha Course addresses the questions of life. You can ask any question you like. If we do not have a ready answer we will tell you. As our guest, we will respect you and your views at all times. If, during the course you decide it's not for you we won't chase you or hound you, but we will still be friendly when we meet you on the street - that's our promise.
We are running an Alpha Course at present (August 9 - October 11) with 25 people attending.
The next course will begin after Easter 2010.
If you want to know more in the mean time contact Peter Dunn on the email link below.
They advertise in Alpha that no question is too hostile, so of course you can imagine some of my questions. The leaders are really patient. There are different people at different stages in their walk with God in the group so its a real supportive learning environment. I found I could ask anything and there were lots of different perspectives.

I was quite cynical...but it was brilliant to be able to question openly in a supportive atmosphere'

If you want a no-holds-barred, open and honest discussion, you can bring all the questions and things that annoy you about anything to do with Christianity or religion to Alpha. You ask it, listen to what has got to be said and then make a decision. If you never ask the questions you'll never get any answers, and if you never give it a go you'll never know whether it was right or wrong, good or bad.'

The message is chatty and non-threatening. It is peppered with personal anecdote and references which appeal to the well-read and to "popular culture"
